Representatives from the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) announced that Chinese tannery sales revenues fell in 2025 during a press conference at the APLF on March 13.
Sales revenues for the main tannery enterprises which are those with an annual turnover of over RMB20 million (US$2.90 million) decreased sales revenue of 9.8% in 2025. Over the year, Chinese tanners imported 1.42 million tons of raw (wet salted) hides and skins with an import value of US$1.13 billion which represented a decrease of 4.7% and 15.8% respectively compared with the same figures in 2024.
According to Chen Zhanguang, Vice Chairman, CLIA, China imported 581,000 tons of semi-processed leather (tanned/crust) valued at US$0.84 billion over the year which was a drop of 6.1% and 18.1% respectively. It also imported 36,000 tons of finished leather valued at US$570 million which was down 15.6% and 15.7% respectively.
