The stage was the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The occasion was the concurrent edition of APLF (running until Saturday 14 March). It was here, within the context of the Asia Pacific Leather Fair, and while the local market attempts — if possible — to untangle a particularly complex economic situation, that Leather Leaders held its first international presentation.
Leather’s true value
The project, supported by Italian tanners, was introduced with a speech by Fabrizio Nuti, president of UNIC – Italian Tanneries, who reiterated the need to attribute “the correct value to leather when certain sustainability rankings circulate that penalise natural materials in favour of synthetics”.
Thirteen tanneries
It is precisely from the desire to explore methods and dynamics capable of scientifically determining this “true value” that Leather Leaders was conceived and developed. Thirteen tanneries are currently involved in the project. As Federico Brugnoli, CEO of SPIN360, explained, they “are undertaking a path of innovation defined in a scientific and rigorous way, designed to be shared with clients”.
Leather Leaders lands in Chinese Hong Kong
With a view to “sharing and innovation”, Leather Leaders also brought several first-hand testimonies from tanneries involved in the project to Chinese Hong Kong. Speakers included Giuseppe Volpi (Volpi Concerie), Matteo Orsetti (Dani) and Cosimo Rovini (Incas).
