Birkenstock Holding plc has agreed to acquire its long-time distributor, Birkenstock Australia Pty. Ltd., to strengthen its position in one of its largest Asia-Pacific markets.
The deal, handled through Birkenstock International Asia GmbH, covers all assets, contracts and employees, and provides a succession plan for founders Marcel and Manuela Goerke.
Founded in the early 1990s, Birkenstock Australia employs around 60 people, generates annual revenue of AUD 88.6 million (US$ 57.4 million), and runs retail stores in Melbourne and Sydney, plus an online shop and a 300-partner wholesale network.
Marcel Goerke will remain managing director during the transition, reporting to chief sales officer Klaus Baumann. The transaction is expected to close by the end of October.
