The Leather Working Group (LWG) has launched two new public consultations as part of its ongoing standards update. In 2026, the current LWG Protocol 7 will be replaced by the LWG Leather Production Standard and the LWG Chain of Custody Standard. By
ILM.
The first consultation on the Leather Production Standard has already closed, but stakeholders now have the chance to review two additional drafts:
LWG Chain of Custody Standard, introducing requirements for traceability and segregation.
Section 15 of the Leather Production Standard, covering due diligence for responsible sourcing, a new addition not included in the initial consultation.
Feedback is open until 30 November 2025, and both drafts can be accessed via the Standards Development page on the LWG website.
LWG stresses that these consultations are separate from the earlier Leather Production Standard consultation, meaning stakeholders who previously contributed are encouraged to review and respond again.
