Sustainable Leather Foundation (SLF) has been contracted by the Leather and Hide Council of America (L&HCA) under its Regional Agricultural Promotion Program to support the expansion of U.S. hide and leather exports while strengthening local capacity for sustainable leather manufacture across Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
As part of this initiative, SLF is delivering a comprehensive training, support, and certification program comprising:
Workshops
Preliminary Assessment Visits
Development and Improvement
Formal Audits
Continued Action Planning
Collaboration is at the heart of this effort, working with regional leather and livestock associations and connecting with international partners such as UNIDO’s Leather Panel to ensure best practice and long-term impact.
Last month, in Malang, Indonesia, SLF hosted a successful 2-day inception workshop (8–9 September 2025) in partnership with APKI. The event brought together 25 tanneries, 5 associations, and educational institutes, fostering shared learning and sustainable growth.
Together, we’re building a stronger, more sustainable leather value chain — from local practice to global trade.
