Kenya’s Cabinet has approved the KSh5.8 billion (~$44.8 million) Leather Value Chain Development Support Project to revive the country’s leather manufacturing industry, increase value addition and create up to 120,000 jobs.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, chaired by the President of kenya, H.E. President William Ruto.

The Cabinet also established the Kenya Leather Development Authority (KLDA) to strengthen the regulation and coordination of the leather value chain, marking a major step in the development of Kenya’s leather industry.

The KSh5.8 billion (~$44.8 million) project aims to revive leather manufacturing, expand value addition and unlock the sector’s estimated KSh120 billion (~$928 million) potential.
