Acque del Chiampo, the industrial wastewater treatment plant in Arzignano (Vicenza), has invested 15 million euros in a new ozonation unit. The new plant improves the efficiency and sustainability of industrial wastewater treatment, enhancing the effectiveness of the treatment process. This process ranges from pretreatment to primary sedimentation, followed by biological oxidation and flotation, and finally the discharge of treated water into the Arica consortium collector. Work on the new facility began in late 2020 and was completed in 2023. In May of last year, the technical and administrative testing of the ozone plant was completed.
The investment
As we mentioned, Acque del Chiampo has
invested approximately 15 million euros in the new ozonation unit. Of this amount, 7.8 million euros were funded by the Ministry of the Environment. The plant carries out the advanced oxidation process using ozone to
decolorize wastewater, disinfect it, and improve its overall quality. This process is performed prior to the final clarification and flocculation stage.
Construction
To build the unit, structural work involved the demolition of unused spaces, as well as the construction of a new underground tank approximately 60 meters long, 13 meters wide, and 6 meters deep. Downstream, the treatment system continues with a tank for chromium reduction and an additional section for flocculation. In addition, a new building hosts the equipment necessary for the plant’s operation, such as generators and ozone generators, cooling systems, and oxygen recompression systems. The new ozonation section has the capacity to treat up to 1,800 cubic meters per hour of wastewater and to produce 130 kilograms per hour of ozone.
