Gianluigi Calvanese is the new director of PoTeCo, the Tanning Technology Center in Santa Croce sull’Arno. With a degree in industrial chemistry, Calvanese brings extensive experience in research and development, having held various roles at SSIP (including serving as the operational director of the Tanning Innovation and Technology Division). “Building on the excellent results that have made PoTeCo a center of excellence to date”, he stated in a press release, “we will work to strengthen the dialogue between research and industry. And to facilitate innovation processes and, more broadly, the evolution of companies and the sector, we will expand PoTeCo’s role as a hub for expertise, research, and technology transfer”.
Appointing Calvanese to lead PoTeCo is also a way to bring the research and technology transfer center (which has been active since 2002) closer to the Experimental Station for the Leather Industry in Naples. “The appointment is part of a broader framework of collaboration between SSIP and PoTeCo to benefit the entire national tanning industry”, says PoTeCo CEO Luca Tempesti. “We intend to promote integration between our respective research, analysis, and technology transfer activities, as well as technical and scientific consolidation among the facilities and laboratories of the two organizations”.

“I would like to thank former directors Valerio Talarico and, before him, Domenico Castiello”, adds Calvanese. “Their commitment has laid the solid foundations upon which to build the work of the coming years”. “Within the framework of this collaboration”, concludes SSIP General Director Edoardo Imperiale, “the strengthening of PoTeCo’s role takes on particular importance”. What role? “That of a national reference infrastructure for applied research, training, and technology transfer in the tanning sector”.
