Now established as a leading platform for emerging design talent, the competition connects students with global brands, mentors and professional opportunities. Previous finalists have gone on to work with major fashion houses including Dior, Christian Louboutin, Loewe, Balmain and Ulla Johnson.
The 2025 competition marked a milestone partnership with Hugo Boss, which awarded by Christopher Koerber, Managing Director of Hugo Boss Ticino, a fully funded six-week placement in Ticino, Switzerland. The opportunity was given to accessories category winner Sara Jaqueline Morandini during the international final in Chinese Taiwan. That same year, overall winner Jamie O’Grady secured a role as an associate designer at New Balance.
Christopher Koerber, Judge and long-standing supporter of RLSD, commented: “What stands out to me each year is not only the creativity, but the depth of thinking – these are designers who understand craft, innovation and the realities of our industry.”
The RLSD international final brings together industry professionals, brand representatives and educators to assess and mentor shortlisted designers. The competition emphasises practical, industry-focused skills, encouraging entrants to demonstrate commercial awareness, material knowledge and responsible design.
Entries for 2026 are open across three categories in apparel, accessories and footwear. Finalists will present their work to an international judging panel and compete for industry exposure, prizes and professional placements.
Organisers say the initiative continues to serve as a launchpad for design careers, with many participants progressing into roles at global brands.
