A US federal judge has overturned a jury ruling that found Lululemon liable for infringing Nike’s Flyknit patent. Judge Arun Subramanian, sitting in the Southern District of New York, recently ruled that claims 1 and 14 of Nike’s 2012 patent are invalid for obviousness, reversing a $355,450 fine.

The patent covers Nike’s Flyknit fabric, including uppers with areas of different stitch configurations joined in a single construction. Nike had claimed Lululemon used these techniques in its Chargefeel, Strongfeel and Blissfeel sneakers.

Nike also has a separate case pending against Lululemon over six patents related to the Mirror Home Gym, with damages sought at triple revenue levels.
