UNDP Nigeria and Lagos State Spotlight Fashion and Leather Enterprises on 2026 International MSME Day

UNDP Nigeria, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, organised the Fashion, Leather and Creative Enterprise Spotlight to mark the 2026 International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day. The 2 day event took place at the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Industrial Leather Hub in Ikeja, Lagos, bringing together more than 300 entrepreneurs, policymakers, development partners, financial institutions, buyers and investors.

The event focused on Nigeria’s fashion, leather and creative industries, highlighting their role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, strengthening local manufacturing and expanding opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

It also aimed to connect emerging and established businesses with markets, knowledge and financing through exhibitions, masterclasses, policy discussions and strategic networking sessions.

Representatives at the event said the fashion, leather and creative sectors continue to show strong potential to support inclusive growth and diversify Nigeria’s economy.

“We are commemorating readiness, not only by celebrating enterprise but by investing in the systems, infrastructure and partnerships that helpgrants,esses thrive. Lagos State recognizes the immense potential within the fashion, leather and creative sectors and remains committed to creating pathways that support innovation, enterprise growth, and sustainable livelihoods.”

Speaking on creating an enabling environment for businesses, Hauwa Adeeyo-Orekoya, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, announced grants of up to NGN 1 million for 5 outstanding enterprises participating in the event.

The event featured Ahunna Eziakonwa, UNDP Regional Director for Africa and United Nations Assistant Secretary General, as the Special Guest. UNDP said the partnership reflects its commitment to strengthening entrepreneurship ecosystems and creating more opportunities for creative enterprises and young entrepreneurs across Africa.

During the 2 day programme, participants discussed institutional procurement, business growth strategies, export readiness and access to finance. Financial institutions and partner organisations also shared information on loans, grants and investment opportunities for enterprises seeking growth capital.

The Fashion, Leather and Creative Enterprise Spotlight concluded by highlighting how strategic partnerships can help unlock the potential of Nigeria’s entrepreneurs and strengthen the country’s creative industries as global attention on MSMEs continues to grow.
