The company is shutting its beef production plant in Souderton, Pennsylvania, and its value-added processing facility in Memphis, Tennessee, with production set to be transferred to other sites across its network. JBS said the move follows a review of its U.S. operations and will allow it to focus investment on growing areas of the business.
JBS said it will support affected employees by offering opportunities at other company locations where possible, alongside on-site assistance and partnerships with local organisations. The company added that it continues to invest in U.S. operations, including expansion projects in Texas, Georgia and Iowa to increase prepared foods and value-added production capacity.
The closures come as the U.S. beef industry faces tight cattle supplies and sustained pressure on processor margins, with the national cattle herd at its lowest level in decades.
