Fashion has learned how to manage crises. That is the key message from Diego Della Valle, Chairman of Tod’s Group, speaking on the sidelines of the presentation of the flagship brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, held at Villa Necchi Campiglio during the fashion week currently taking place in Milan. Della Valle believes the worst period is now over, although, according to the Italian fashion entrepreneur, there may still be another two or three crises over the next decade. Luxury, however, is ready to withstand further shocks, as it has already demonstrated in relation to the Middle East.
The crisis overcome
“Looking at today’s geopolitical landscape, we are all thinking about what we will need to do over the next year or even over the coming years, provided nothing unexpected happens”, Diego Della Valle
told Ansa. He then pointed to what happened in the Middle East “overnight” as an example. For the fashion and luxury industry, that situation became “
a good example of how you do not abandon your position” in an area “where people are trying in every possible way to return to normal life”.
Luxury is ready for new shocks
According to the entrepreneur leading Tod’s Group, which is still searching for a CEO following the departure of John Galantic a month ago, fashion has now moved beyond its most difficult phase. It is prepared to face a new decade in which another two or three crises could arise, particularly considering the pace at which they have followed one another since the pandemic in 2020. Della Valle also had encouraging words for Italy: “It is a good moment for Italy. Of course, markets can change overnight, but if we continue doing well the things we know how to do, we are in the most positive position possible, because no one can speak about quality in the way we can”.
