The Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) has said the sector is feeling the effects of drought in cattle-producing regions of the US.
It said that severe drought across the Central Plains and other important livestock farming regions of the US had degraded pasture conditions, reduced the availability of forage and has led to producers selling calves rather than retain them for breeding.
As a result, it said the US cattle herd was not increasing. LHCA said the impact on hides is that there is pressure on hide availability and on prices.
