A delegation of Chinese nationals visited the Kenya Leather Industrial Park (KLIP) to explore collaboration and investment opportunities in Kenya’s leather value chain ahead of the park’s full operationalisation.

The Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) said the visit was aimed at familiarising the delegation with the park and the opportunities available for investors.

KLIP is a 100 acre industrial park in Kinanie, Machakos County that is being developed to support leather processing and manufacturing. The park has space for tanneries, leather goods manufacturers and other industries linked to the leather value chain.

KLDC said the park is fully equipped to support leather processing with reliable water supply, ICT connectivity and specialised effluent management facilities including chrome recovery and recycling systems.

The park is also located near major transport corridors and has access to both skilled and unskilled labour.

During the latest visit the Chinese delegation expressed confidence in KLIP’s investment readiness and highlighted its strategic location and dependable water supply.

The delegation also called on Chinese and other international investors to explore the opportunities available at the park.

The visit comes as KLIP moves closer to full operationalisation and seeks to attract companies that can establish leather processing, manufacturing and related operations within the industrial park.
