Grupo Atelier: EUR 1 million investment to manufacture for leading luxury brands
Spanish leather goods manufacturer Grupo Atelier is investing EUR 1 million to expand production for leading luxury houses, enlarge its facilities, recruit new employees and support future growth. The Catalonia-based company currently generates annual revenue of EUR 4.8 million, producing around 3,000 belts and 5,000 pouches and laptop cases each week with a workforce of approximately 100 employees. Its objective is to double its headcount to 200 and increase turnover to EUR 8 million by 2030. Founder and CEO Gerardo Sanchez Bandres also spoke about the opportunities that could arise from revitalising Igualada’s historic tanning industry.
Manufacturing for leading luxury brands
Grupo Atelier manufactures apparel, accessories and leather goods for luxury brands, including Loewe, other LVMH maisons and Loro Piana. The company will establish its new headquarters in Palau Solità i Plegamans, near Barcelona, with an investment of almost EUR 1 million. Its three production facilities near the Catalan capital, located in Montcada i Reixac, Sabadell and Badalona, will close in August as operations are transferred to the new 3,000-square-metre site. The company expects to double or even triple its production capacity there by introducing double-shift working. The new headquarters will begin operations in early September, while the official opening is scheduled for the final week of October. In preparation for the planned recruitment drive, Grupo Atelier has also launched an internal training programme.
The expanded facility will allow the company to stop turning down orders, something it has been forced to do in recent months after reaching full production capacity. “The international luxury market demands a wide variety of models in relatively small quantities, which is why
we are focusing on the Spanish market, where demand is more seasonal”, founder and CEO
Gerardo Sanchez Bandres told
Modaes.
“We know we cannot compete with Morocco, Turkey or Asia”, the entrepreneur continues, “but many Spanish brands are committed to offering premium products. They have realised that ‘Made in Spain’ and domestically manufactured goods have considerable appeal”. Bandres also expressed his ambition to help revive Igualada’s historic tanning industry. “If we approached it in the right way, we could create a major manufacturing hub capable of competing with Ubrique”, the Catalan entrepreneur said.
