Italian leather manufacturer Masoni Industria Conciaria has acquired a minority stake in a Tuscan tannery to strengthen its vertically integrated leather supply chain.
According to FashionNetwork, the investment in Hashtag Tannery is intended to reinforce the production chain across Tuscany’s leather district, creating greater industrial synergies while preserving the specialist expertise of both companies. The transaction follows Masoni’s wider strategy of securing key stages of leather production through targeted investments.
Hashtag Tannery specialises in the tanning of calfskins and suede and will continue to operate independently under its existing management. The companies said the partnership is designed to combine their technical know-how while improving efficiency, product quality and traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
The acquisition marks another step in Masoni’s ongoing expansion strategy. In 2022, the company acquired a minority stake in wet-blue specialist Ulivieri & Nardi, a move that was reportedly aimed at consolidating its production chain and enhancing transparency and traceability.
Masoni itself has been partly owned by LVMH Métiers d’Art since 2019, when the luxury group acquired a minority stake to support the tannery’s long-term development and international growth while securing strategic leather manufacturing capabilities within its supply chain.
The latest investment reflects the continuing trend among luxury supply chain companies to deepen control over specialist leather manufacturing through minority investments rather than outright acquisitions, helping to secure long-term access to high-quality materials and craftsmanship.
