  • China tariff cuts put US$2.5 billion tanning chemicals market in focus

    The organisers of the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) say recent tariff reductions in China are creating new opportunities for international leather suppliers, as the country continues to strengthen its position as one of the world's largest leather manufacturing markets. The exhibit returns to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from September 1-3, 2026.

    According to ACLE, tariffs on imported products have been reduced by up to 50%, making overseas goods more price competitive and supporting increased demand for imports, particularly wet blue leather and tanning chemicals.

    ACLE said China’s tanning chemicals market is valued at US$2.5 billion, while the country produces around 320 million sq m of leather each year. The organisers said the revised tariff structure is expected to encourage greater trade and make the Chinese market more attractive for international exporters.

    The exhibition organisers also noted that many of China’s leading tanners are expected to attend this year’s event in Shanghai, including:
