Cattle slaughter in South Africa fell by more than 16% in the first quarter of 2026.
Figures for the first three months of this year showed a total of 565,266 head of cattle going to slaughter, compared to 673,468 in the same months last year.
Annual cattle slaughter in South Africa reached almost 2.7 million head in 2025.
