General Situation

According to statistics, from January to February 2026, the sales revenue of key enterprises of China leather industry decreased by 0.9% from the previous year. The Leather industry has an export value of USD 14.70 billion, increasing by 11.9%, while the imports amounted to USD 2.52 billion, increasing by 4.2% year-on-year.

Tanning Industry

From January to February 2026, the sales revenue of key tanneries in China reached a total sales revenue of 6.6 billion RMB, decreased by 5.6% year-on-year.

From January to February 2026, imports of raw hides and skins were 237,000 tons in quantity, increasing by 1.9%, and USD 0.19 billion in value, decreasing by 5.3% year-on-year. 89,000 tons of semi-finished leather were imported, bringing in a decrease of 21.9%; imports valued to USD 0.12 billion, decreasing by 28.4% year-on-year. Imports of finished leather were 4,433.7 tons in quantity, and USD 70.284 million in value, down by 25.8% and 19.8% respectively year-on-year.

Footwear Industry

From January to February 2026, the sales revenue of key footwear enterprises decreased by 1.3% year-on-year. The exports of footwear products amounted to 1.68 billion pairs in quantity, bringing in an increase of 12.0%; and USD 7.51 billion in value, increased by 6.1% year-on-year, while the imports of footwear amounted to 25.544 million pairs in quantity and USD 0.87 billion in value, decreased by 19.9% and 1.1% respectively year-on-year.

Among them, the sales revenue of key leather shoes enterprises decreased by 4.3% year-on-year. The exports of leather shoes amounted to 97 million pairs in quantity and USD 1.25 billion in value, increased by 12.0% and 6.1% respectively year on year. The imports of leather shoes amounted to 6.78 million pairs in quantity, and USD 0.34 billion in value, decreasing by 23.6% and 8.8% respectively year on year.

Leather Garment Industry

From January to February 2026, the sales revenue of the key leather garment enterprises increased by 33.3% year-on-year. The exports of leather garments amounted to USD 28.317 million in value, up by 100.0% compared to the same period last year, while the imports amounted to USD 22.041 million in value, with an increase of 14.6% year-on-year.

Bags and cases Industry

From January to February 2026, the sales revenue of key bags and cases enterprises increased by 0.9% comparing to the previous year. The export value of bags and cases was USD 5.32 billion, increasing by 18.4% year-on-year, while the import value of bags and cases was USD 0.98 billion, increasing by 22.6% year-on-year.
