Situation
According to statistics, from January to May
2026, the leather industry has an export value of USD 32.75
billion, decreasing by 6.6%, while the imports amounted to USD 6.41 billion, increasing
by 3.2% year-on-year.
Tanning Industry
From January to May 2026, imports of raw hides
and skins were 618,000 tons in quantity, increasing by 1.6%, and USD 0.49
billion in value, decreasing by 4.1% year-on-year. 244,000 tons of semi-finished
leather were imported, bringing in a decrease of 8.9%; imports valued to USD 0.32
billion, decreasing by 19.1% year-on-year. Imports of finished leather were 14,000
tons in quantity, and USD 0.22 billion in value, down by 7.0% and 6.8%
respectively year-on-year.
Footwear Industry
From January to May 2026, the exports of footwear
products amounted to 3.49 billion pairs in quantity, bringing in a decrease of 5.7%;
and USD 15.76 billion in value, decreased by 10.3% year-on-year, while the
imports of footwear amounted to 59.546 million pairs in quantity and USD 2.07
billion in value, decreased by 19.8% and 3.0% respectively year-on-year.
Among them, the exports
of leather shoes amounted to 0.19 billion pairs in quantity, bringing in a decrease
of 3.0%; and USD 2.53 billion in value, decreased by 10.1% year-on-year. The
imports of leather shoes amounted to 16.223 million pairs in quantity, and
USD 0.86 billion in value, decreasing by 17.5% and 2.5% respectively year on
year.
Leather Garment Industry
From January to May 2026, the exports of leather
garments amounted to USD 49.424 million in value, up by 45.6% compared to the same period last year, while the imports amounted
to USD 51.6 million in value, with an increase of 28.5% year-on-year.
Bags and cases Industry
From January to May 2026, the export value of
bags and cases was USD 12.41 billion, decreasing by 4.2% year-on-year, while
the import value of bags and cases was USD 2.42 billion, increasing by 14.4% year-on-year.
