Massimo Confente has been elected President of the Leather and Hide Section of Confindustria Vicenza.
Confente, Chairman of the Board of tanner 3C Lavorazione Pelli, succeeds outgoing president Mirko Lucio Balsemin and will be supported by Giuseppe Valter Peretti of Peretti Group as Vice President. The new section council also includes representatives from companies across the Vicenza tanning sector, with Balsemin remaining involved as past president.
Confente thanked colleagues for their trust and said he intended to continue work based on dialogue and collaboration between trade associations, unions and institutions. He also paid tribute to Balsemin for his work during what he described as a “delicate time for our sector”.
“The sector is going through a complex phase, marked by a difficult economic situation and challenges that require cohesion, vision and teamwork”, Confente said, adding that protecting and strengthening the role of Vicenza and Italian tanneries would remain a priority.
Despite economic pressures, the Italian tanning industry remains a global benchmark, accounting for 67% of total European production and 25% of global production. According to UNIC 2024 data, the Veneto tanning district represents 59.3% of national production, with around 8,205 employees across more than 420 companies, turnover exceeding €2.4 billion and exports nearing €1.9 billion.
Looking ahead, Confente said strengthening relationships with UNIC, schools, training institutions, municipalities and local organisations would be essential to support businesses through ongoing transformation and preserve the district’s leadership.
