General Situation
According to statistics, from January to March
2026, the leather industry has an export value of USD 19.05 billion, decreasing by 4.2%, while the imports
amounted to USD 3.87 billion, increasing by 4.6% year-on-year.
Tanning Industry
From January to March 2026, imports of raw hides
and skins were 365,000 tons in quantity, increasing by 1.9%, and USD 0.29 billion in value, decreasing
by 6.1% year-on-year. 150,000 tons of semi-finished leather were imported, bringing in a decrease
of 10.3%; imports valued to USD 0.2 billion, decreasing by 20.2% year-on-year. Imports of finished leather were 8,127.8 tons in quantity, and
USD 0.12 billion in value, down by 11.9% and 8.0% respectively
year-on-year.
Footwear Industry
From January to March 2026, the exports of footwear
products amounted to 2.10 billion pairs in quantity, bringing in a decrease of 2.5%; and USD 9.42 billion in value, decreased
by 8.0% year-on-year, while the imports of footwear amounted to 38.931 million pairs in
quantity and USD 1.31 billion in value, decreased by 20.4% and 2.8% respectively
year-on-year.
Among them, the exports
of leather shoes amounted to 0.12 billion pairs in quantity, bringing in an increase of 9.9%; and USD1.56 billion in value, decreased
by 9.9% year-on-year. The imports of leather shoes amounted to 10.422 million pairs in
quantity, and USD 0.53 billion in value, decreasing by 18.4% and 5.6% respectively year on
year.
Leather Garment Industry
From January to March 2026, the exports of leather
garments amounted to USD 33.535 million in value, up by 54.3% compared to the same period last year, while the imports amounted to
USD 34.025 million in value, with an increase of 27.8% year-on-year.
Bags and cases Industry
From January to March 2026, the export value of
bags and cases was USD 7.04 billion, decreasing by 1.1% year-on-year, while the import value of bags and cases was USD 1.48 billion, increasing by 20.7% year-on-year.
