Athletic shoe retailer Footasylum has partnered Apparel Group to expand across the Gulf region, with 40 stores set to open over the next five years.
Headquartered in Dubai, Apparel Group operates more than 2,500 stores and manages a portfolio of 85 international brands across 14 countries.
Neeraj Teckchandani, CEO of Apparel Group, said: “Footasylum’s unique position in streetwear and youth-centric fashion aligns exceptionally well with the dynamic tastes of shoppers across the GCC.”
JD Sports acquired Footasylum in 2019, but competition authorities in the UK ordered the group to sell its acquisition on because, the authorities said, the tie-up meant a reduction in competition and a worse deal for customers. Germany-based investment company Aurelius Group bought it in 2022.
Footasylum reported revenues of £349.5 million for the 12 months ending January 25, 2025, almost 10% higher than the previous year.
